In Tanzania, nearly 70% of people lack access to safe water. This crisis impacts every facet of life. Children miss school due to deadly, water-related illnesses. Parents struggle to provide for their families when so many hours are spent collecting water. The rural water crisis in Tanzania is urgent and enormous - but there is hope. Water Mission, a Christian engineering nonprofit, has been successfully designing and installing high-quality water systems in Tanzania since 2013, restoring health and dignity for millions of people.
The Project
Kumkugwa is a rural host community of about 6,000 people in northwestern Tanzania where families currently rely on a single, contaminated spring for drinking water, leading to widespread waterborne disease. Funds raised will support the assessment, design, and construction of a long-term safe water system powered by solar energy and designed for future population growth. The project will include piped water, community tap stands, and household connections, overseen by a local water committee trained to operate and maintain the system with affordable user fees. With support now, this project can move forward toward commissioning in summer 2026, bringing reliable, safe water close to home for thousands of families.
