Water Mission, a Christian engineering nonprofit, will host its 20th annual Walk for Water on March 21, 2026. Since 2007, thousands of people from across the Lowcountry have gathered to raise awareness of the global water crisis and support Water Mission’s efforts in implementing safe water solutions around the world.

2 billion people—nearly 25 % of the world’s population—lack access to clean, safe water for drinking, hygiene, and sanitation. On March 21, the Charleston community will respond to this crisis by walking to help bring safe water to more than 14,000 people in need. Those interested in joining the Walk for Water can sign up at walkforwater.com/charleston.

The Walk for Water simulates the daily reality of millions of people worldwide who walk miles each day to collect water that is often unsafe. This burden primarily falls on women and children, stealing valuable time that could otherwise be spent on work and education. Today, half of the world’s hospital beds are occupied by patients suffering from water-related illnesses. Globally, an estimated 1.4 million people die each year from preventable diseases caused by unsafe water, poor sanitation, and insufficient hygiene.

By joining the Walk for Water, participants can fight the global water crisis and transform lives with every step. Each dollar raised will help provide sustainable safe water solutions around the world, bringing health, hope, and opportunity to communities in need.

"The Walk for Water is a unique opportunity for the Lowcountry to come together and change lives around the world," said Water Mission CEO and President George Greene IV, PE. "Over the last 20 years, our community has helped the Walk grow from just a few dozen people in 2007 to filling Riverfront Park with thousands of walkers. The global water crisis is an enormous and urgent problem affecting more than 2 billion people worldwide, but there is hope. By joining the Walk for Water, participants can help save lives through access to clean, safe water. At this year’s Walk, we have a goal of raising enough money to bring safe water to 14,000 people around the world."

On March 21, walkers will gather at Riverfront Park at 1061 Everglades Avenue, North Charleston, S.C., 29405. Activities will begin at 8 a.m., with the Walk starting at 9 a.m.

The Walk for Water raises funds and awareness to fight the global water crisis while also offering a fun, family-friendly Saturday morning. Participants can enjoy food trucks, interactive activities, live music, and more.

Registration is available online at www.walkforwater.com/charleston. Participants can join an existing Walk team or start their own. Registration is $25 for adults, $10 for youth, and free for children ages four and under. Included in registration is a t-shirt and a drawstring backpack.
