Water Mission, a Christian engineering nonprofit, will host its 19th annual Walk for Water on March 29, 2025. Each year, thousands of people from across the Lowcountry come together to increase public awareness of the global water crisis and raise funds to support Water Mission’s safe water solutions around the world.
Today, 2 billion people—one-quarter of the world’s population—lack access to clean, safe water. This year, the Charleston community will walk to bring safe water to more than 14,000 people in need. Those interested in joining the walk can register here.
The Walk for Water allows participants to experience the daily reality faced by millions worldwide—walking miles each day to collect water, which is often unsafe. This burden is primarily the responsibility of women and children, robbing them of valuable time while exposing them to serious health risks. Right now, 50% of the world’s hospital beds are filled with patients suffering from water-related illnesses. Every year, an estimated 1.4 million people die from preventable diseases linked to unsafe water, poor sanitation, and inadequate hygiene.
By joining the Walk for Water, participants can fight the global water crisis and transform lives with clean, safe water. Every step taken supports Water Mission’s work to provide sustainable safe water solutions, bringing health, hope, and opportunity to communities in need.
“Now in its 19th year, the Walk for Water in Charleston has continued to grow, providing our community a unique opportunity to rally together and make a life-changing impact for thousands of people,” said Water Mission CEO and President George Greene IV, PE. “The approximately three-mile walk route symbolizes the miles that millions of women and children worldwide walk daily gathering water for their families. The water they collect is often dirty and filled with bacteria that cause illness and even death. Our goal for this year’s walk is to raise enough funds to transform the lives of 14,000 people around the world with safe water access.”
On March 29, walkers will gather at Riverfront Park at 1061 Everglades Avenue, North Charleston, S.C. 29405. The Walk will begin at 9 a.m.
The Walk for Water raises funds and awareness to fight the global water crisis, but it is also a fun and family-friendly way to spend a Saturday morning! Beginning at 8 a.m., participants can enjoy food trucks, interactive activities, live music, and much more.
Registration is available online at walkforwater.com/charleston. Participants can join an existing team or start their own Walk team. Registration is $25 for adults, $10 for youth, and free for children ages four and under.
