A little over a week ago, staff of Water Missions International—Uganda traveled to St. Joseph primary school in Nagalama, Mukono district in Uganda for a celebration of the country’s 50th anniversary of independence. Attended by thousands of people including multiple heads of state, the jubilee began with a Military Parade featuring members of the Army, Police, Prison Guard, Youth, President’s Band, and various schools and organizations, including Water Missions International. After the parade various performing groups took to the stage, including traditional dancers.

After the end of the performances and festivities, the Guest of Honor, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, listened to seven different speakers. One of the speakers, the District Chairperson who represented the people of Mukono District, discussed the work of non-government organizations working within the district. One of the organizations recognized was Water Missions International. After the speech, President Museveni recognized two of the nonprofits mentioned, awarding a “Certificate of Recognition” to both Water Missions International and N. Gamba CSWCT. WMI staff accepted both certificates, as we have worked with N. Gamba CSWCT on water projects in Kimmi and Koome and the organization was unable to attend.
