Volunteer John Lane: Making an Eternal Impact

July 10, 2023

Five crucial words are printed on every Living Water Treatment System: “Assembled with love by volunteers.”

Volunteers are an essential part of our mission to bring safe water to the 2 billion people worldwide who lack access to this vital resource. John Lane, a passionate Water Mission volunteer, believes strongly in that mission.

“I love being a Water Mission volunteer,” John says. “I love the ministry of Water Mission.”  Nearly two years ago, John read a book that opened his eyes to the reality of the global water crisis. One of the statistics that he encountered — 50% of the developing world’s hospital beds are filled with people suffering from water-related diseases — gripped his heart. He knew he had to do something.

"When I started thinking about what I wanted to do with my spare time, I wanted to do something that was life-giving and that would have an eternal impact. Water Mission, I believe, is that place,” John said. Since joining Water Mission, John has volunteered in a variety of roles for the organization. He has served as an advocate and as a Walk for Water committee member, but he particularly enjoys the education initiative. John and other members of the education initiative team visit schools in the Charleston area to inform them of the global water crisis, as well as the solutions that Water Mission provides.

Since learning about the global water crisis, John Lane (left) has been a passionate and diligent Water Mission volunteer.

In addition to these roles, John also served as the lead volunteer for the 2023 Walk for Water. He gave countless hours to plan the Walk, and lead both set-up and clean-up for the event.

“John is extremely passionate about the global water crisis — his enthusiasm is infectious!” Water Mission Coordinator of Community Engagement Krista Pack said. “He is always willing to jump into any role and support our Events and Engagement team anytime.”  John is committed to doing his part to help Water Mission fight the global water crisis.

“I’m on board — I’ve pushed my chips into the middle of the table,” John says. “I just encourage you to find a way that you can help out and get involved.”  For those interested in volunteering with Water Mission in Charleston or in your own community, click the button below.
