Uniting Christians and Muslims through WASH
In situations where Christianity is a prevalent part of the discussion, it can be difficult to maintain attendance. Kiago Samuel, Water Mission Uganda’s Community Development Facilitator, spoke on his approach to keeping people coming back. “Since this training included Muslims, I started with WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) in the Bible in order to draw their attention and encourage them to attend till the last day. The second day, I started to share with them the love of God through Jesus Christ, demonstrating that because of this love, Jesus didn’t discriminate against people. He loved them all – even those who seemed to be enemies of the Israelites.”
Christians and Muslims were brought together over a common interest: WASH. Throughout this conference Samuel witnessed not only consistent attendance but also the breaking down of religious barriers. “We showed the Jesus film, and it was attended by many people,” Samuel explained. “Among them, 20 people accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, and for this we glorify God!”
Towards the end of the conference, the group spent time practicing what they learned about WASH in the local community, and each participant received a solar-powered audio Bible called The Messenger.
“God is being talked about in this community ever since the time of the safe water project’s implementation,” said Samuel. “Praise be to God, for all of them promised to read, research, and study the Word so that they will be able to testify to others!”We rejoice as we watch the Lord opening doors for our teams to share the gospel with people who have never heard of Him, and to strengthen and encourage brethren who already know the Lord! Join us in praying weekly for our international team, as they share safe and Living Water in communities around the world. Pray with us
