Transforming A Community
The safe water committee celebrates the completion of the safe water project with glasses of clean, safe water from the new system.
Last fall, when we first heard Sincere’s story about her sister, the community of Desvarieux in Haiti didn’t have safe water. Roughly 9,000 people relied on one well full of unsafe water.
Life has changed in Desvarieux. Water Missions International staff in Haiti worked with the community to install a solar-powered Living Water™ Treatment System and a new tap stand to allow easier access to safe water for the community.
Understanding that merely providing safe water access is not enough, our staff spent time promoting WASH best practices within the community. They held workshops to teach the importance of proper hand washing techniques and why safe water is better to drink than unsafe water.
Now the people of Desvarieux have access to safe water.
Every part of this project had one overarching goal: to change the lives of community members like Sincere and her sister. Our hope is that, now that safe water flows in Desvarieux, children won’t have to miss school because of long walks to collect water, people will no longer get sick because of waterborne illness, and the quality of life in Desvarieux will be forever changed.
