Thankful This Advent Season

December 24, 2013
In this season of Advent, many of us are looking ahead to Christmas—a time for rest and remembrance of Jesus’ birth with family and friends. I can’t help but think of the many blessings Jesus has provided me with this season. I’ve met a lot of great people since coming on board Water Missions International earlier this year, many of whom are volunteers. We have a great group who go above and beyond to make our Water Missions International facility a wonderful place. It’s not unusual for a volunteer to show up with a homemade chocolate cake for lunch or a group of college kids to load up a van and drive to our headquarters for an alternative break. Our volunteers are willing and ready to help out however they can, and throughout this year, blessings have come in unexpected and exciting ways. volunteer lunch Pastor Doris of FaithWorks International prepared Thanksgiving dinner for Water Missions International staff and volunteers. Pastor Doris Haynes of FaithWorks International has been providing Thanksgiving lunch for Water Missions International staff members for the last three years. Last month she and her friends loaded a car full of pecan cups, turkey, vegetables, and other goodies to prepare a beautiful spread for the team. We sang hymns together, lit candles, and had great fellowship. Pastor Doris never asks for anything in return, only if we enjoyed the food. Church Members of the Church of the Resurrection decorate a Christmas tree for Water Missions International. Church of the Resurrection holds Church services and bible study every week in our multipurpose room. They also take turns each Friday prepping lunch for our volunteers. A couple of weeks ago, they gathered here at the office to decorate a Christmas tree. Even in this busy season, their laughter and upbeat spirit was contagious. College Students Students from Vanderbilt University spend part of their winter break volunteering at Water Missions International. It seems there aren’t enough hours in the day or enough hands to do everything that needs to be done. Thankfully, our volunteers come from many walks of life, sharing their time, skills, and Christian faith with all of us. Thanks to everyone who lends a helping hand to another. Many blessings to you and your loved ones in this Advent Season!
