For Such a Time as This: The Rapid and Rigorous Journey to Provide the Nepali People with Safe Water
With the aid of partners, Water Missions quickly sent equipment and staff (from Indonesia, Denmark and the U.S.) to Nepal to begin providing safe water. The team assessed 33 displacement camps, mountainous villages, rural communities, and hospitals. As a result, nearly 16,000 Nepali people now have access to safe water.
"Despite the rigors of getting there, camping out high in the hills of the Himalayas, and witnessing great destruction, seeing the joy that clean water is delivering to people who are in great need of refreshment both in their bodies and in their spirits was a great privilege," wrote photographer Sean Sheridan, about working in Nepal for Water Missions.
Projects are currently being transitioned into the hands of communities, churches and local nonprofits. Local Nepali people are being trained to address technical issues that might arise, as well as being taught proper hand-washing and hygiene practices as they manage their safe water projects.
With resources given, donations received, and timely partnerships, Water Mission is positioned to help in the most severe of disasters. We don't take lightly the resources our supporters have entrusted us with: we will continue to use them for such a time as this, from an earthquake on the other side of the world to a flooding disaster in South Carolina. We exist to build solutions that provide immediate safe water and sanitation relief and long-term support.
Thank you, our partners and supporters, for equipping us to do this work. We, alongside the people of Nepal, are grateful to serve in such a time as this.
