Remembering Haiti: Five Years Later
Since 2010, Haiti has become WMI’s largest country program. WMI has been growing on the ground operations, working with community members to take ownership of the projects and teaching them to operate, maintain and take care of each safe water system. In addition, WMI has been installing healthy latrines and delivering health and hygiene education all measures which help to reduce cholera cases throughout the country.
Before the 2010 earthquake, Water Missions Haiti had 3 staff members and about 20 water projects underway. Since then, our program has grown to 39 staff who have led 439 projects giving safe water to just under one million people in Haiti. We are committed to this country, these people, and will keep working to ensure that all people in Haiti have access to safe drinking water.
