Partnership With Pentair
Water Missions International staff member Hector shows what one community used for a bathroom before Project Safewater Colon.
The partnership has since resulted in over 16,000 Healthy Latrines™ and safe water access for over 80% of the population. By the end of this year, that number will become 100%. Most importantly, a third party health impact study revealed that 32 months after this community received safe water access, visits to local health clinics for diarrheal diseases have dropped by over 50%.
By providing safe water and sanitation to 300,000 people, Project Safewater Colon is the largest scientifically documented water and sanitation project in Central America. Through this successful implementation of a scalable, sustainable and comprehensive safe water and sanitation project, The Pentair Foundation and Water Missions International have refined the process for transforming a community and driving down mortality rates.

Recently, Project Safe Water Colon was named as a Top Nominee by the CLASSY Awards, an organization recognizing the greatest champions of social progress, in the category of “Human Rights & Social Justice, Poverty and Hunger Relief.”
The partnership between Water Missions International and The Pentair Foundation goes beyond Honduras. The Pentair Foundation is one of the biggest supporters of Water Missions International’s disaster response efforts, most recently addressing safe water needs following the destruction of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.
Now in communities throughout Colon, safe water flows.
The Pentair Foundation is also a proud sponsor of the 8th annual Charleston Walk For Water which raises funds and awareness for the global water crisis. During the Walk for Water weekend, representatives from Pentair attended a strategic partners’ meeting in Charleston along with other thought leading organizations including Grundfos, SolarWorld, Fedex, Georg Fischer, Hach, Multi Contact, Pace Analytical, Parker, PSI and Southwire. The results of the Health Impact Study from Safe Water Colon were presented to the group with the goal of determining how the project can be replicated to transform additional communities around the world in need of safe water and sanitation.
