Nepal Earthquake | Through the Rubble

May 15, 2015
It's now been 20 days since the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that shook the country of Nepal. Since then, our team has flown in, shipped dozens of water treatment systems over, endured more quakes, and traveled to communities with the most urgent needs. Project engineer Tim Darms has been assessing communities that have received little aid outside of Katmandu. He was pointed to one village named Pokhari. To get there, it was a three hour car ride on rough roads, followed by a two hour hike, he had to climb hand and foot up a mountain. "It was just rock on top of rock, hand and foot through rubble until we reached Pokhari," he explained. "The village was completely flattened." The villagers took him to the spring where they collect water. It's completely dry, aside from a muddy puddle. A medical team found many cases of severe diarrhea in the kids of Pokhari, a clear result of the terrible water. Tim visited a few other communities in the mountains, finding similar situations. Dirty, muddy, "dusty," undrinkable water. Yet in the midst of his assessments showing great need, he was met with unbelievable hospitality. Hospitality in Simbu | Nepal Earthquake Tim was welcomed, given food and tea (above), and shown generosity by people with houses that have tumbled down. They have hospitality and hope amidst the greatest catastrophe that has faced their country. Because of the earthquake and unbelievable devastation, communities that have never before had safe water will be able to taste it very soon. To give safe water to communities in Nepal, donate here.
