We’re always excited to partner with schools and groups that work with children. The global water crisis is an ongoing problem that affects millions around the world. Only by educating people on this harsh reality can we begin to work together to end the crisis once and for all. Who better to teach than the next generation?
Water Missions International staff know that it’s difficult to grasp the reality of the global water crisis if you’ve never been exposed to it. Most children in the United States are fortunate enough to never have walked miles for water or turned on a tap to fill up a glass with dirty water.
To explain the disparity between the amounts of water a household in the US uses every day compared to the amount of water a family in Africa uses, at SouthLake Christian Academy a Water Missions International staff member arranged buckets on the assembly floor.
The buckets on the left represent the water an average household in the US uses every day. The buckets on the right represent the water a family in Africa use.
Quiet broke out in the room as the students stared at the buckets, trying to grasp the dramatic difference between what their families enjoyed and what others in the world had to scrape by with.
Inspired by their new knowledge about the water crisis, SouthLake Christian Academy students (JK through Grade 12) raised $21,320.34 for the academy’s “Living Water for the World” fundraising project. The proceeds from the fundraiser were presented to Water Missions International on the academy’s campus via satellite earlier this week.
We’re so grateful to the students and teachers of SouthLake Christian Academy for joining us in the fight to bring safe water to all. Thank you to everyone who participated!
