Living Water Program: Mobilizing Churches to Transform Communities
Written by Joey Garner, Living Water Program Director
Water Mission’s vision is that all people have safe water and an opportunity to experience God’s love. Our Living Water program seeks to carry out this vision by equipping local church leaders through our Church and Community Mobilization Program (CCMP) to share the gospel, make disciples, and meet needs in their communities.
The CCMP curriculum is designed to coincide with our safe water project plan. When Water Mission assesses a community’s need for safe water, Living Water staff meet with churches to assess the community’s spiritual health. We then invite church leaders, regardless of denomination, into a Church Leader’s Network.
We serve all people.
There are never faith requirements for people to have access to safe water. Water Mission serves all people regardless of age, gender, race, or faith.
The leaders attend a nine-module training in their community that delves into God’s Word. For example, in Module 3, pastors study the story of Jesus washing His disciples’ feet and wash each others’ feet to foster a servant-like attitude. At the end of the nine modules, they agree upon a plan to engage their communities.
The CCMP training has equipped pastors and leaders to show God’s love around the world, including in our Latin America country programs.
Since its inception, we have witnessed the CCMP's profound impact on churches. “Our church has grown in attendance due to the Living Water program,” said Pastor Kennedy from Watema, Kenya.
When church leaders are empowered, communities are transformed.
“We learned about discipleship…and caring for others. We did door-to-door evangelism, which also helped us find and care for the needy.”
