High Impact Volunteer Exceeds 3,000 Hours

August 25, 2017
Cathy Sadler began volunteering at Water Mission in November 2008 in the aftermath of a deadly cyclone in Myanmar. Born in Vicksburg, MS, and raised in Charleston, SC, Cathy says that the most remarkable change that she has seen at Water Mission in the past nine years is our staff growth - from 20 to 60 - in the headquarters office. Cathy has a bachelor’s degree in English and foreign languages from the College of Charleston and a master’s degree in library science from the University of Florida. In 1976, her language and travel interests landed her at the University of Hull in England where she earned a second master’s degree in Victorian literature. Cathy works hard as a volunteer to make an impact through safe water at Water Mission's headquarters in North Charleston, SC. One of Cathy’s primary roles at Water Mission is supporting our relationships with churches by maintaining database information for over 300 individual churches. In addition to supporting churches, Cathy enters all volunteer applications into our database, a time consuming but much needed job.
“I just want to help people.  And it’s good for me to be at Water Mission because I get out and about.” -Cathy Sadler
Cathy is passionate about helping people, in fact, in 2014, Cathy broke her ankle and was homebound for nearly seven months. It was important to her to stay engaged, so Kevin Herr, Water Mission’s manager of Church Partnerships, set up software on her computer at home to enable her continued service. In her spare time, Cathy stays busy doing jigsaw puzzles, cross stitching, and latch hook projects. She is a square dance aficionado and an avid reader, which perhaps explains why her favorite scripture verse is John 1:1 – “In the beginning was the Word.” Cathy chats with Molly Greene, Co-Founder of Water Mission, at her desk in the office. Thank you, Cathy, for helping others through Water Mission. To learn more about volunteer opportunities at Water Mission's headquarters in North Charleston visit watermission.org/volunteer.
