Four Ways to Show Love This Valentine's Day
As we celebrate love this month, we also reflect on God’s commandment to love one another. This Valentine’s Day, we want to share four ways you can show love to both your loved ones and people around the world whom you may never meet in person.
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.
1. Pray for People in Need
The greatest way we can show love to our global neighbors is by praying for them. You can sign up for Prayer Ripples, our weekly email series that gives you specific prayer requests from our staff around the world.
Pastor Laston founded a church in Butimbwa, Uganda, where Water Mission finished a safe water project in October 2022, serving more than 4,700 people. Pastor Laston attended Water Mission’s Living Water training in Butimbwa, where he studied servant leadership. His church began to put this training into practice as they surrounded the less fortunate in their community.
“I thank Water Mission and am thankful for the Living Water training,” Pastor Laston said. “Please pray for us, and we can lift our hearts together as brothers and sisters to the Lord.”

Pastor Laston has been leading his church in Butimbwa, Uganda, since 2003. He requests prayer for his church and his community.
2. Advocate on Social Media
Today, raising awareness on social media is the quickest way to advocate for a cause you’re passionate about. By sharing stories of impact, you are showing love to those who still lack access to safe water.
We recently shared the story of Martha, a refugee in Boneana, Indonesia, on our blog and social media. Delvina is another refugee from Timor-Leste living in Boneana. Women like Delvina used to spend 4-5 hours a day walking for and collecting water that often made their children sick. In 2022, Water Mission finished a safe water project there, bringing safe water to the homes of every resident.
Delvina began crying as she recalled the first time she turned on her tap, saying, “I was very happy when the water flowed because I am already old. I am no longer strong enough to collect water…. We are so blessed to have [a] safe water program here.”
Visit Water Mission on Facebook, Instagram, X, and LinkedIn to share stories like these and raise awareness for the 2 billion people who lack safe water.
Delvina is a refugee from Timor-Leste who finally received safe water in her community of Boneana, Indonesia, in 2022. Her story is one of many that show the impacts of the global water crisis.
3. Volunteer Your Time and Talents
God has equipped each of us with unique skills that can be used to bring safe water to people in need and advance His Kingdom.
In the fall of 2024, Water Mission responded to Hurricane Helene’s destruction in western North Carolina. Our disaster response team distributed 1,100 generators and installed 19 safe water treatment systems, serving more than 112,000 people.
Ken Anderson, a minister at Henson United Methodist Church in Cove Creek, reported that he had never seen flooding like this in North Carolina. He was overjoyed when he heard Water Mission wanted to install a safe water treatment system at his church to provide water for the community.
“I can’t tell you how pleased we are and how thankful we are for Water Mission doing their work,” said Ken. “It makes life so much easier when you have ready access to potable water.”
Providing safe water for Ken’s community would not have been possible without the volunteers working on the ground and behind the scenes, showing God’s love.
Hundreds of volunteers helped during Water Mission’s disaster response to Hurricane Helene. CEO and President George Greene IV and his sons spent time with our volunteers in North Carolina.
4. Give a Gift in Honor of a Loved One
Are you searching for a Valentine’s Day gift that shows love? This month, you can give safe water in honor of a loved one–the perfect gift that also shows love to people in need of safe water. When you give, check the box that says, “I want to dedicate my gift,” and we will send an e-card to your loved one.
Jessica is a pregnant mother living in Aldea Roma, Honduras, where she used to bathe and wash her clothes in the nearby river. In 2024, Water Mission completed a project in Aldea Roma, bringing safe water to 560 households and building latrines and showers for 38 families, including Jessica’s.
“For us, it is a joy because having water in the house is a better life for you and for all your children,” Jessica said. “You don’t have to go to the river because the water is in the house, and you can wash your clothes whenever you want without having to leave the house.”
Just $50 will provide one person like Jessica with safe water and the opportunity to hear the Living Water message of Jesus Christ. By giving, you can bless a loved one today.
Jessica, a pregnant mother in Honduras, received access to safe water in September 2024. Thanks to the generosity of friends like you, she can drink water, wash her clothes, and shower in her home.
