Disaster Response: South Sudan

March 3, 2014
A few weeks ago, we told you how Water Missions International, in partnership with Samaritan’s Purse, was responding to the desperate need for safe water in South Sudan’s refugee camps. One of our staff members from Water Missions International Uganda traveled north with a team from Samaritan’s Purse and two Living Water™ Treatment Systems. Both systems are now fully operational and providing much needed safe water. Since fighting began in December, more than 700,000 people have fled their homes in South Sudan. While many have fled to refugee camps within the country, more than 100,000 people (roughly the size of Charleston, SC) have sought refuge in neighboring countries, including Uganda. South Sudan Safe Water Water Missions International partnered with Samaritan's Purse to install two safe water solutions in South Sudan. Staff from our Uganda country program traveled to assess the needs of refugee camps in Northern Uganda. Disease can quickly become a problem in overcrowded camp situations. Our hope is that safe water access can prevent outbreaks of preventable waterborne illness. Many of the refugees have said that there is no going back to South Sudan. They’ve lost their homes, possessions, and livelihoods. Safe water is the first step for a new, better life, which is why Water Missions International is working to help the refugees in Northern Uganda. If you’d like to join us in bringing desperately needed aid to the South Sudanese people, you can support Water Missions International’s disaster response efforts by going to our Donate page and choosing Disaster Response in the Designation section. As we work with the refugee camps in Northern Uganda, we’ll keep you updated on our response. Donate Now Button | Water Missions International
