Celebrating Impact in Latin America: Three Country Programs Making a Difference
In June 2025, Water Mission had the opportunity to celebrate recent successes from our three Latin America country programs: Honduras, Mexico, and Peru. Latin American and US staff came together in Honduras for the annual Latin America Regional Summit. Together, they reflected on the year thus far, planned for the future, and grew in relationship with each other.
“Having leaders from Latin American countries and global leaders in a single event was very constructive,” said Mexico Country Director Johny Bermudez. “Working as a team; promoting cooperation; and uniting Mexico, Honduras, Peru, and the global office were very edifying. We also had the opportunity to get to know each other on a more personal level. Virtual meetings are great, but they will never surpass in-person meetings, which foster a deeper connection with participants.”
We want to join our Latin America staff in celebrating this year’s victories by highlighting three recent safe water projects that reflect Water Mission’s value of excellence.
Peru
In April 2025, our Peru team commissioned a safe water project in the community of Santa Maria de Ojeal. The project serves 600 people and is located along the Amazon River.
“We highlight the Santa María de Ojeal project because it is a project we implemented with support from the community, Food for the Poor, and the municipality,” said Peru Country Director Vicky Espinoza. “After many years, families now have access to safe water every day.”
Mexico
In June 2025, our Mexico team celebrated the commissioning of a safe water project in the community of La Independencia. Sourcing water from a new well and using a combination of solar power and electric grid energy, the project delivers safe water directly to 1,575 people's homes.
Before Water Mission’s new project, the community received water from a system with 14 pumps in different locations that all had to be operated manually. The one pump operator worked from 4 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day, traveling from pump to pump to provide the community with water that was not safe to drink.
Water Mission’s project is automated, requiring less time to operate and bringing unification to the operator’s family. Our innovative approach will also significantly reduce operational costs. Now, the entire community of La Independencia has reliable access to safe water at all hours of the day.
Señora Nicolasa has lived in La Independencia her entire life. She said, “We don’t have words for this project to thank the people who are implementing it to give us really safe water."
Honduras
Our Honduras team commissioned a safe water and sanitation project in Aldea Roma, Honduras, in September 2024. The project consists of our first successful surface treatment plant in Honduras, sourcing water from a river and using six large filters, each with a filtration capacity of 300 gallons per minute.
The water project provides safe water directly to 560 households, or approximately 2,800 people. We also built latrines and showers in the homes of 38 vulnerable families in the community.
For the first time during the rainy hurricane season, the people of Aldea Roma had clean, safe water that was not contaminated by the frequent rains and flooding.
“The Aldea Roma project is deeply significant for Honduras,” said Honduras Country Director Rocio Cruz. “It was developed in honor of Water Mission co-founder Molly Greene, which gives it special emotional value for the country and the entire organization. Furthermore, it is one of the largest projects executed not only in Honduras but in the entire Latin America region.... Its impact demonstrates the power of collaboration, faith in action, and a commitment to human dignity through sustainable access to safe water.”
As we reflect on the impact made in these communities, we look forward to seeing more lives transformed in Peru, Mexico, and Honduras. We are grateful for the ways in which God is using our global staff and people like you to save lives with safe and Living Water.
More than 50 staff members across our Latin America country programs and US headquarters attended the fifth in-person Latin America Regional Summit in June.
