A Brand New Year
September 30th marked the last day of the fiscal year for Water Missions International and an opportunity to reflect on how grateful we are for those of you who have been a part of our family. With your support over the last year, our ministry experienced 20% growth and together we reached a milestone we can all celebrate – providing access to safe water to three million people!
As we celebrate people around the world receiving physical and Living Water, we remain mindful of the fact that the global water crisis remains enormous and urgent. We believe God has placed us in a unique position to serve as a resource for bringing individuals and organizations together to provide relief to those in need of safe water.
This year we have seen doors open like never before with support from corporations, individuals, and churches. We have even been blessed with the opportunity to serve as an implementer for other organizations like UNICEF and World Bank.
As we work to position the ministry for even greater growth in the coming year, we believe an important first step is updating our brand. Today we are excited to introduce to you a new brand identity and redesigned website. The new branding allows us to share more broadly the work we do around the world, but in no way changes the vision, mission and values that were cast for the organization from its inception.
Many of you know well the story of our founders, Molly and George Greene III, Ph.D. P.E., who in 1998 were operating an environmental engineering company in Charleston, South Carolina when they heard about the devastation in Honduras caused by Hurricane Mitch. After receiving a request for multiple water treatment systems in Honduras, and being unable to find existing systems that could adequately respond to the need, George and his team of engineers took action to build such a system – and thus the idea for Water Missions International was born. Since then thousands of safe water treatment systems have been deployed around the world to communities in need. The Greenes’ original vision, that no one should perish from lack of safe water or the opportunity to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ, continues to inspire our work. Those of you who have journeyed alongside us either as a supporter, a volunteer, or a walk participant, have shared in that vision. That is why we wanted to explain to you the thinking and meaning behind the changes.
First, we shortened the name from Water Missions International to Water Mission in an effort to simplify and create consistency. The change allows us to move away from having Water Missions International abbreviated to WMI, something that was happening frequently, due to the length of the name. The new name also clearly and quickly communicates the focus of our work.
We created a new logo and hope that you will agree that it fully embodies all aspects of our work around the world.

Through the new logo we strive to represent:
- Quality – the rich blue represents the clean, safe water our solutions deliver.
- Quantity – the waves demonstrate the high volume of water our solutions are able to provide.
- Sustainability – the flow of the water shows movement, and speaks to our implementation process, designed to ensure that the solutions provided last for generations.
- Break through – the water in the logo appears to be breaking through a barrier. We see that as a demonstration of the fact that we provide innovative solutions that break through the global water crisis.
- And finally, and most importantly – we do all that we do to glorify God. Our Christian identity is our foundation, and so the cross is still prominently featured in the new logo.
We hope that you will explore our new website. Our goal was to make it visually appealing, easy to navigate, and a place you would feel proud to send your friends and family members to learn more about our life-saving work around the world.
In summary, thank you for your continued support. Without your generosity, we would not be in a position to make the important changes we are making today. With the implementation of the new brand, we feel better equipped to communicate with you and to share the ways that the Lord continues to bless the work being done through Water Mission in His name.
