Will your church consider blessing those in need by hosting a Water Sunday?
Water Mission’s vision is that all people have safe water and an opportunity to experience God’s love. We believe God has a role for the church to play in loving those in need by meeting physical and spiritual needs.
When you host a Water Sunday, your church family is living out John 15:12 and loving others as God loves us. You are building a bridge that links your church to people struggling, helping to meet the physical need for safe water and the spiritual need for Living Water.
See above for pre-made posters, slides, bulletin inserts, and event ideas to make this a powerful experience for your congregation.
“Christ often challenges us to not just think about our physical need, but rather to see the needs of others around us. He is modeling for us what it looks like to be a powerful light in the midst of darkness.”
See how one church came together to love their neighbors by giving the lifesaving gift of safe water and the transformative gift of God’s love.
Talking Points
During Water Sunday, you will be sharing with your church family about the need for safe water around the world—and how meeting physical needs can open doors to sharing the gospel. The talking points and facts below may come in handy.
The global water crisis impacts every facet of life. Children miss school due to deadly water-related illnesses. Parents struggle to provide for their families when so many hours are spent collecting water. Costly medical bills pile up.
Access to safe water is life-changing for these men, women, and children. It builds health and hope, creating educational and economic opportunities that can help break the cycle of poverty. Our vision is that all people have safe water and an opportunity to experience God’s love.
Facts & Figures
- 2 billion people lack access to safe water globally. That’s one-quarter of the world’s population.
- More than 800,000 people die every year due to water-related illnesses, and kids under five years old are most at risk.
- That means that 100 people will have lost their lives because of unsafe water by the time we finish this church service.
Water Mission serves all people regardless of age, gender, race, or faith.
When Water Mission builds safe water solutions, communities witness staff and their local church—supported by other believers like you around the world—working together in the name of the Lord. This opens doors for us to share the gospel.
Facts & Figures
- More than 3 billion people globally have heard but not responded to the gospel of Jesus Christ. More than 2 billion people have virtually no exposure to Jesus.
- In the absence of a relationship with Jesus, people experience broken relationships with God, self, others, and creation. We can meet physical needs, but spiritual transformation only comes from a relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Many pastors and church leaders around the world have little-to-no education in Bible study or discipleship and feel ill-equipped to share the gospel with their neighbors.
- Water Mission partners with local churches to share the gospel, nurture the faithful, and show God’s love to all.
Sermon Topics
Pastors may choose to align their Water Sunday sermon to themes of the Church loving those in need. Below are just a few ideas to consider.
