Frequently Asked Questions

Churches partner with Water Mission because it helps them expand their global impact by providing an avenue for churches and individual members to fulfill the Great Commission and Great Commandment. Together, we can love our global neighbors, strengthen churches around the world, and mobilize congregations to live out the Great Commission and Great Commandment in their daily lives.

Churches deserve ministry partners they can trust.

Water Mission is more than a clean water organization. Rather than simply installing a well, Water Mission develops sustainable, community-owned safe water systems, trains local operators, monitors performance, and equips local churches to serve as long-term partners within their communities.

Global experience: Water Mission has more than 25 years of experience delivering sustainable safe water solutions with proven accountability and stewardship. Water Mission has served communities in more than 65 countries and is a trusted leader in designing and implementing sustainable models for safe water, church engagement, and disaster response around the world.

Financial stewardship: Water Mission has earned Charity Navigator's highest 4-Star rating for 19 consecutive years, demonstrating a long-standing commitment to transparency, accountability, and faithful stewardship of every gift entrusted to the mission.

Water Mission is a Christian engineering nonprofit. Our work is based on the belief that God is concerned about the physical and spiritual well-being of all people, motivating us to love and serve others. Water Mission’s response to the command to love God and love our neighbors (the Great Commandment) is to provide access to safe water for those in need—our global neighbors. Not only that, but we believe the gospel is most powerful when it is both demonstrated and proclaimed, and we have seen safe water open doors to the gospel in powerful ways. Building safe water solutions creates opportunities for us to partner with local church leaders to share the hope of Jesus Christ.

Water Mission serves all people, regardless of age, gender, race, or faith.

No two churches engage in ministry exactly the same way. Rather than following a one-size-fits-all model, we invite your congregation to prayerfully explore the opportunities Water Mission provides and choose the avenues that best align with your mission, vision, and capacity.

Whether you begin with a Water Sunday, participate in a Walk for Water, support global programs, or engage in disaster response, every step helps bring safe water and the hope of Jesus to people in need. You’ll also receive regular updates, stories, and resources that keep your church connected to the impact you’re making.

We believe partnership can be about more than financial support. Water Mission provides a variety of opportunities for your congregation to fulfill the Great Commission and Great Commandment outside the four walls of your church. Whether through a Walk for Water, Water Sundays, a headquarters tour, VBS resources, disaster response activities, or global church relationships, there are meaningful ways for every member of your congregation to participate in expanding your church’s global impact.

Yes. Your church can expand your global impact by partnering with a specific country program or strategic ministry focus while supporting Water Mission's broader efforts within that region. In addition to receiving regular updates and impact stories, churches will be invited to participate in live conversations with Water Mission staff and ministry leaders, creating opportunities to build meaningful connections and better understand the communities being served.

Following a disaster, access to safe water is essential to prevent the spread of waterborne illnesses and provide other critically needed services like food, shelter, and medical attention. Water Mission specializes in safe water and sanitation solutions for communities impacted by disasters. Our team partners with local governments and fellow response organizations to meet the needs of those who are suffering. We not only provide immediate aid but also implement long-term solutions as needed to help communities better prepare for future disasters.

Your church can expand its global impact by helping prepare for future emergencies. You can support disaster readiness efforts by determining in advance how you would like to respond, whether through prayer, giving, advocacy, or volunteer engagement.

No. While Water Mission mainly serves communities globally, we also engage churches and communities across the United States through disaster response efforts, educational experiences, and mobilization opportunities.

On average, approximately $50 can provide one person with access to safe water and the Living Water of Jesus Christ.

The best first step is to start a conversation with the Water Mission team. We would love to learn more about your church, your heart for mission, and explore ways we can help your church expand your global impact. Contact Marie Reny, our Church Outreach Manager, at [email protected] or use the form to let us know how your church is interested in partnering with Water Mission.
