Because You Blessed Residents of Loma Negra, They’re Blessing Others

There is much to celebrate as we start the new year. Over the past 12 months, your generosity enabled Water Mission to serve more than 1.5 million people with access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene solutions.

Right now, safe water is transforming communities around the world.

For the residents of Loma Negra, Peru, life without safe water was the norm.

“Before, when we used to drink [unsafe] water, many people here got sick. The water had parasites,” Maria Yessica shared with us.

Maria Yessica and her neighbors struggled to keep their children healthy. The water was salty and contaminated, so people were often faced with only two choices:

  • Risk exposing their families to deadly water-related illnesses or
  • Make long, sometimes dangerous journeys to purchase water.

Then in 2016, Water Mission installed a reverse osmosis system, a pivotal moment for residents like Maria Yessica.

“Now, the children drink a lot of water, and they no longer get sick,” Maria Yessica said. “We have enough time to do things that we didn’t do before when we had to buy water very far away.”

Maria Yessica’s children no longer get sick from the water in Loma Negra.

The Ripple Effect of Your Generosity

During every project, Water Mission trains and equips a local Safe Water Committee to operate, maintain, and manage their systems. Such resources are foundational to Water Mission’s commitment to sustainability and community development.

From the beginning of the project, Loma Negra’s Safe Water Committee has been intentional about its mission to keep safe water flowing for residents long-term. After years of planning and budgeting, the Safe Water Committee is using its savings to expand Loma Negra’s safe water system to serve even more people in the surrounding areas.

Because friends like you showed love to our global neighbors in Loma Negra, Peru, residents there can also bless their neighbors.

This is a tangible example of how God is moving in Loma Negra and around the world. It represents the ripple effect of your generosity.

“I would really like to thank you for the help you have given us,” Maria Yessica said. “We didn’t have that before, and now we thank Water Mission because we have fresh water.”

As you reflect on how Loma Negra plans to serve its neighbors, prayerfully consider how you can partner with us to create even more ripples of generosity around the world.

Friends like you help Water Mission serve communities with safe water and the Living Water message of Jesus Christ.
