Water Mission’s 17th Annual Walk for Water is on Saturday, March 25
Walkers Will Gather at Riverfront Park in North Charleston to Raise Funds and Awareness to Fight the Global Water Crisis Impacting 2.2 Billion People Around the World
N. Charleston, S.C. — February 10, 2023 – Water Mission, a Christian engineering nonprofit, will host its 17th annual Walk for Water on March 25 to increase public awareness of the global water crisis. This crisis leaves 2.2 billion people – nearly one-third of the world’s population – without access to clean, safe water.
In many countries, women and children walk more than three miles daily to collect water, taking time away from school and work, and putting them in danger. The water they collect is often unsafe and makes their families sick. By joining the Walk for Water, participants will help Water Mission provide accessible, lifesaving safe water solutions for communities we serve around the world.
“The Walk for Water in Charleston is a unique opportunity for our local community to rally together and positively impact thousands of lives,” said Water Mission President and CEO, George Greene IV. “We walk to symbolize the miles that millions of women and children walk each day to gather water for their families. The water they are collecting is often dirty and filled with bacteria that cause illness and even death. Our goal for this year’s walk is to not only bring awareness to this crisis but to raise enough money to bring clean, safe water to 10,000 people in need around the world.”
On March 25, walkers will gather at Riverfront Park at 1061 Everglades Avenue, North Charleston, S.C. 29405. The walk will begin at 9 a.m. The Walk for Water raises funds and awareness to fight the global water crisis, but it is also a fun way to spend a Saturday morning! Enjoy food trucks, interactive activities, a new Walk route, live music, and so much more at Riverfront Park.
People can register online at walkforwater.com/charleston, join an existing team, or start their own Walk team. Registration is $25 for adults, $10 for youth, and free for children ages four and under.
