Introducing Water Missions International: Tanzania!

We’re thrilled to announce our newest country program—Tanzania! Thanks to our supporters around the world, we’re able to open our 10th in-country office and begin serving the people of Tanzania by providing sustainable access to safe water and sanitation in a greater capacity.

Our country program offices also enable us to mobilize faster response to disasters, which means that we do not always need to deploy equipment and staff from Charleston since we operate in a global marketplace. The structure is the epitome of what we see as sustainable safe water solutions—equipping countries and communities to serve each other and be self-sufficient so that safe water flows forever.

Our new country program
A safe water project is already underway to bring these children safe water in Tanzania.

Our newest country program will bridge the geographical gap between our existing programs in Malawi, Kenya, and Uganda, enabling us to broaden the scope of our work in eastern Africa. The addition of another country program in this region will allow us to provide more infrastructures in Africa to continue expanding our work, making projects in nations bordering our country programs more logistically efficient.

Our team in Tanzania has already begun work on three safe water projects, with many more ahead. Projects range from community solutions to institutional projects. We’re eager to begin employing solar technology—an ideal solution for rural Africa—to provide safe water for communities in need. We’re also exploring the opportunity to broaden our TradeWater™ program, a management model designed for communities that lack the necessary capacity to maintain our standard community-managed safe water solution.

Lacking Safe Water
Communities like this one lack a safe water source nearby, so women and children must trek long distances to collect unsafe water.

Our first shipment to Water Missions International – Tanzania will take place in the beginning of December. We’ll send solar panels, pumps, treatment equipment, and supplies to stock the program for future projects.

We look forward to expanding our capacity to impact communities in Tanzania with sustainable, comprehensive safe water solutions. As stories of transformation unfold, we’ll update you on our projects in Tanzania. We appreciate your prayers and support as we continue to build our newest office and our newest team!

I had the opportunity to visit Tangarie Primary School in Tanzania in Aug. There are 600 children there, 10 teachers and no drinking water. I am hoping you will consider this very rural school as one of your projects.

    Thanks, Elaine Rawls

      Hi Nshoya,

Thank you for your interest in our work. The cost for a well depends on multiple different aspects. Therefore, it is very difficult to give an accurate pricing without knowing the particular situation.

Please fill out our Safe Water Request Form as that will help us assist you. You will find the form here: Country Programs

Please submit your completed form to our Tanzania office. You can mail it to PO Box 60036, Kawe Beach, Dar es Salaam or email it to bfilskov@watermission.org.

      Thanks,

      Hi Sophia,

We’re so glad you had the chance to visit the project in Chanhumba. We seek to involve beneficiaries throughout every stage of our projects, including monitoring and evaluation. One way we do this is through follow up visits to communities at routine times. We return to the community on a set schedule (Chanhumba, for example, had 10 Water Mission follow up visits after the project was commissioned). In these visits, we carry out several activities, such as assisting the local “Safe Water Committee” (the elected community group that manages operations of the project) with any challenges they may face, as well as water quality testing, and speaking with beneficiaries. In addition to visits to the community, we also collect monthly summary reports from the water system operator that helps us to know how many people are buying water from the system, as well as monthly expenses. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any additional questions about our monitoring and evaluation!

      Best,
      Jennie – Communications Team

Am wondering if can have a chance for us to share our experience in this project and together work out on how we can scale it up; will appreciate if can be invited to visit your office for more discussions and familiarization.
