Why Water is an Oasis of Peace for Refugees: Oreni’s Story

Posted December 17th, 2020 by Water Mission.

When the threat of violence and war came to her home country of Burundi, Oreni was forced to flee without her husband to Tanzania with their four young children in tow. Safe water is one less thing to worry about now for Oreni. She says, “It took us two days to get to the border of Tanzania. It was hard because I had the four kids with me. We were on foot. We were very afraid because there were people looking for those who were fleeing, like us. But we made it to the border. It was terrible leaving home—we left everything we ... Read More

Bringing Safe Water To Nduta Refugee Camp, Tanzania

Posted December 3rd, 2020 by Water Mission.

For the first time, 50,000 refugees in Tanzania’s Nduta refugee camp have access to safe water. In a year filled with unique challenges and sweeping changes to our daily lives, milestones such as this remind us of the heart of our work: fostering unity and inspiring hope. Water Mission partnered with the Norwegian Refugee Council, Oxfam, the Poul Due Jensen Foundation, and the United Nations Refugee Agency to bring safe water to men, women, and children living in Nduta refugee camp to escape the extreme poverty and violence in Burundi. The newly constructed safe water treatment facility. “Water Mission believes that we are ... Read More

This Christmas, Water Is…

Posted November 16th, 2020 by Water Mission.

What is water for you this Christmas? You may think about it when you brew a hot cup of coffee to enjoy with a holiday treat, or when you notice the snowflakes on your windowpane. The truth is, water is this, and so much more. For the 2.2 billion people around the world who lack access to it, water is hope, life, unity, and peace. And these are the true blessings that you can share this season, in Jesus’ name, when you invest in the gift of clean, safe water. This Christmas, water is HOPE for men like Renold, a resident of Zoranger, Haiti, who lives with a visual impairment. Every day, Renold had to navigate treacherous mountain terrain for several miles with his walking cane to collect unsafe water. That all changed when Water Mission constructed a water treatment ... Posted July 30th, 2020 by Cinelle Barnes.

COVID-19 continues to evolve, affecting millions of the most under-resourced and vulnerable populations around the world. As of this writing, more than 17.2 million cases of the novel coronavirus have been reported worldwide, nearly 670,000 of which have led to fatalities.  Like you, Water Mission feels called to respond to these critical needs. We remain in the fight against the continuing global health crisis, providing safe water, handwashing facilities, and hygiene resources that protect the health and safety of millions.   In much of the developing world, there is a lack of reliable, accurate health information on coronavirus symptoms, transmission, and prevention. Additionally, many doctors and nurses in these ... Read More

Protecting Refugees from COVID-19 on World Refugee Day

Posted June 18th, 2020 by Gregg Dinino.

The United Nations designates June 20 as World Refugee Day. This is a day for the global community to call renewed attention to the nearly 80 million men, women, and children that the UN Refugee Agency describes as people displaced by war, violence, persecution, or other emergencies. According to the agency, nearly 30 million of these people have had to cross national borders for asylum and safety. Most refugees come from Syria, Venezuela, Afghanistan, and South Sudan, while the top five refugee-hosting countries are Turkey, Colombia, Pakistan, Uganda, and Germany. Residents living within and around settlements and camps are at high risk of contracting COVID-19 due to a ... Read More
