After the Earthquake: Safe Water for Our Brothers and Sisters in Haiti

Posted August 20th, 2021 by Water Mission.

On the morning of August 14, 2021, a 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck the southern region of Haiti. The deadly quake devastated communities and claimed more than 2,100 lives in Les Cayes, Jeremie, and the surrounding communities.   The 7.2-magnitude earthquake has left many thousands of people homeless. Thanks to our faithful partners and Water Mission’s existing program in Haiti, we were well-positioned to respond to God’s call when this crisis occurred. We quickly deployed our team to assess needs and determine the best disaster response to ensure our global neighbors had access to clean, safe water. Working closely with our partners, we are:  Leveraging the 40 Water Mission projects in southern Haiti to ensure the uninterrupted flow of safe water for impacted communities.   Transporting ... Stronger After the Storm: Safe Water for the Bahamas

Posted July 8th, 2021 by Jason Young.

As Hurricane Dorian hovered over the Bahamas, its 185 mph winds churned up seawater and created a 20-foot storm surge that contaminated wells and freshwater sources. Though surrounded by ocean, much of the nation was without a source of safe water.    Hurricane Dorian, one of the largest Category 5 Atlantic hurricanes on record, left more than 70,000 people homeless.  With the help of partners like you, Water Mission responded immediately in the wake of this disaster. We installed four reverse osmosis (RO) systems to meet the urgent need for safe water. Designed by Water Mission partner, Parker Hannifin, these systems use a specialized water purification process to filter saltwater before it is treated. To ... Read More

Disaster Response: Water is Life in Texas and Around the World

Posted May 26th, 2021 by Water Mission.

Anna Margaret lives in the rolling hills of Austin, Texas. Her family was one of the millions left without access to safe water after the record-shattering Texas winter storms in February.  She and her children initially lost power in the first few days of the winter storm. When the electricity came back on, the heat did not. Knowing this put her pipes at risk, Anna Margaret ensured she had emergency water jugs and a bathtub full of water. After four days trying to keep her children warm in the cold house, a pipe finally burst in the middle of the night. She awoke to find water gushing from her house.  Like thousands of Texans, freezing temperatures caused the pipes in Anna Margaret’s home to burst. As the downstairs flooded, she ... Read More

Originally published on April 19, 2021 by Global Washington. Written by David Inman, PE; Global Partnerships Senior WASH Technical Advisor at Water Mission.  Despite global efforts to provide water and sanitation solutions to healthcare facilities, almost 2 billion people worldwide depend on healthcare facilities without basic water services. As a nonprofit Christian engineering organization that designs, builds, and implements water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) solutions, Water Mission is working to serve vulnerable communities through sustained WASH provision. Our work to provide WASH in healthcare facilities around the world includes advocating for patient care, equipping frontline workers, strengthening health systems, and providing engineering expertise.   Advocating for patient care and safety: Improved maternal and infant health in Malawi Safe water, functioning ... Benjamin and Kirsten Watson on Living Out Their Family Mission

Posted April 27th, 2021 by Water Mission.

Former NFL tight end and Super Bowl XXXIX champion, Benjamin Watson is a dedicated supporter of Water Mission. Benjamin and his wife, Kirsten, began partnering with Water Mission several years ago when they supported a large-scale project providing safe water access to multiple communities in Kenya. “I cannot express the joy we witnessed on so many faces as we watched…safe water flowing where it previously had not,” Benjamin shared in a later Facebook post. “Water builds hope!” Benjamin is also a passionate advocate for Water Mission’s work on his social media channels, encouraging his followers to learn about the global water crisis and support Water Mission’s solutions. In this way, Benjamin ...
